Yin Yoga Teacher Training
A residential training to deepen your understanding of Yin Yoga — exploring the practice through both the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a modern anatomical understanding of the body.
Over 50 hours, we’ll explore Yin postures, anatomy and the fascial system, Traditional Chinese Medicine, meridians and the Five Elements, alongside sequencing and the practical skills of teaching. There will be plenty of time to practice, teach, question and experience the quieter, more introspective qualities of Yin for yourself.

THE SPACE ACADEMY
More than learning Yin poses
Learning to teach Yin Yoga is about much more than learning a collection of postures and how long to hold them. Throughout the training, we’ll explore what is happening beneath the surface of the practice — physically, energetically and experientially.
We’ll study Yin through two complementary lenses: modern anatomy, including fascia, joint variation and individual differences between bodies; and Traditional Chinese Medicine, exploring meridians, the Five Elements and the ways these ideas have become woven into contemporary Yin Yoga.
Rather than looking for one “correct” way to practice or teach a posture, we’ll explore intention, sensation, variation and choice — giving you the tools to understand what you’re teaching and adapt the practice to the person in front of you.
25%
Yin practice & postures
Exploring the principal Yin postures, variations, use of props and different ways of approaching the practice.
20%
Anatomy & fascia
Functional anatomy, the fascial system, joints, skeletal variation and understanding why Yin can feel very different from one body to another.
20%
Traditional Chinese Medicine
The foundations of TCM relevant to Yin Yoga, including Qi, Yin & Yang, meridians and the Five Elements.
20%
Teaching & sequencing
Cueing, communication, adapting postures, creating Yin sequences and learning to guide a complete class.
15%
Practice, observation & integration
Teaching practice, feedback, personal practice and time to experience and integrate what you’re learning.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Understanding Yin from different perspectives
Yin Yoga can be approached in many different ways. Throughout the training, we’ll move between anatomy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, personal practice and teaching, looking at how these different perspectives can inform one another without treating them as the same thing.
You’ll have time to explore the practice in your own body, study the theory behind it and gradually put what you’re learning into practice as a teacher.
Yin Postures & Practice
Explore the principal Yin postures in detail, looking at their intention rather than searching for one fixed or “correct” shape. We’ll explore variations, the use of props, transitions and rebound periods, alongside different ways of approaching each posture depending on the person practicing.
Through your own practice, you’ll also explore the particular qualities of Yin — stillness, time, sensation and attention — and how these influence both the physical and more introspective experience of the practice.
Anatomy, Fascia & Individual Variation
Develop a practical understanding of the anatomy relevant to Yin Yoga, including joints, connective tissue and the fascial system. We’ll explore skeletal variation and range of motion, looking at why the same posture can look and feel very different from one person to another.
Rather than using anatomy to find a universal alignment, we’ll use it to better understand individual bodies, recognise when variation or support may be useful and make more informed choices when practicing and teaching.
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Meridians & Five Elements
Explore some of the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine that have become closely connected with contemporary Yin Yoga, including Yin and Yang, Qi, the meridian system and the Five Elements.
We’ll look at the qualities and associations of the different Elements and seasons, organs and meridians, and explore how this framework can be used as a lens for creating and experiencing a Yin practice.
Sequencing & Class Planning
Learn how to build complete Yin classes with intention, considering posture choice, transitions, timing and the overall rhythm of a practice.
We’ll explore different ways of sequencing, including anatomical and TCM-inspired approaches, and how pranayama, meditation and other complementary practices can be incorporated without feeling separate from the rest of the class.
Teaching Yin Yoga
Teaching Yin involves more than explaining how to enter a posture. We’ll explore language and cueing, offering variations, using props, adapting the practice to individual bodies and knowing when less guidance may be more useful.
We’ll also look at holding space: how silence, pacing, tone of voice and the way you communicate can create an environment that allows students to slow down, turn their attention inward and have their own experience of the practice.
Practice & Teaching Experience
You’ll move between being a student and a teacher throughout the immersion, giving you time to experience the practices yourself and then explore how to share them with others.
Through teaching exercises, observation and feedback, you’ll have opportunities to experiment, ask questions and gradually bring anatomy, TCM, sequencing and the quieter qualities of Yin together in your own teaching.
HOW THE TRAINING WORKS
A week to immerse yourself in Yin
The training takes place entirely at The Retreat Space in Normandy, giving us 50 hours together to practise, study, teach and experience Yin away from the usual rhythm of everyday life.
Rather than separating theory from practice, we’ll move between the two throughout the week. Anatomy and Traditional Chinese Medicine are explored alongside physical practice, workshops, discussion, observation and teaching exercises, giving you time to experience what you’re learning rather than simply taking notes.
Because we’re living and learning together, the training can continue more naturally beyond individual sessions. There is time for questions and conversations, for your own practice, for rest and for everything we’re exploring to gradually settle over the course of the week.
NORMANDY IMMERSION
Time to slow down and go deeper
There is something particularly fitting about studying Yin away from the usual rhythm of everyday life. For the duration of the training, we live, practice and learn together at The Retreat Space, surrounded by the Normandy countryside.
Having this time allows us to explore Yin differently. There is space for longer practices, workshops and teaching exercises, but also for rest, reflection and conversation. You can experience the quieter qualities of the practice for yourself rather than only learning how to teach them to somebody else.
Between sessions, we share home-cooked vegetarian meals, spend time outside, sit by the fire and have space to simply rest. The rhythm of the week is intentionally spacious, allowing time for what we’re learning to settle rather than trying to fill every moment.
WHO THIS TRAINING IS FOR
A course for everyone
This training is for yoga teachers who want to add Yin to their teaching, as well as practitioners who want to spend time studying and experiencing the practice in greater depth.
You don’t need an advanced physical practice or previous experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We’ll introduce the concepts we use during the training and explore them gradually through theory, discussion and practice.
What matters more is that you already have some experience of yoga, are curious about Yin and are willing to participate fully in both the practical and theoretical parts of the immersion.
If you’re unsure whether the training is appropriate for your level of experience, you can get in touch before registering and we can talk it through together.
THE TRAINING IN PRACTICE
What does the immersion actually look like?
This training combines Yin practice, theory, workshops, discussion and practical teaching throughout the week. Rather than spending long periods sitting and taking notes, we’ll move regularly between learning something, experiencing it in your own body and exploring how you might teach it.
Days will include morning practice, teaching sessions and workshops, with breaks for meals and time to rest. Some days may focus more heavily on anatomy or Traditional Chinese Medicine, while others will give us more time for posture exploration, sequencing and teaching practice.
The exact rhythm will change throughout the immersion depending on what we’re exploring — the intention is to have enough structure to cover the full 50-hour program while still leaving space to absorb what you’re learning.

YOUR TRAINING TEAM
Louise Cutler – Lead Trainer
Louise has been teaching yoga since 2013 and training teachers since 2018. She leads the Yin immersion, bringing together the anatomical, experiential and Traditional Chinese Medicine perspectives explored throughout the training.
Her approach to Yin is centred around curiosity rather than fixed alignment — understanding individual bodies, exploring sensation and giving students space to experience the practice for themselves. Throughout the immersion, she teaches the practical and theoretical elements of Yin alongside sequencing, teaching methodology and teaching practice.
You will be staying in Louise and her family’s property surrounded by nature. The house and yoga barn were designed by her to create an atmosphere of calm and rest.

THE IMMERSION
We’ll take care of everything
The training takes place at The Retreat Space, our retreat centre in the Normandy countryside. Accommodation is shared, with individual beds in calming and comfortable rooms, allowing the group to live and practice together throughout the immersion.
All meals are vegetarian and prepared on site using fresh ingredients, with an emphasis on seasonal, local and predominantly organic produce. Meals, snacks, teas and hot drinks are provided throughout the stay.
The residential format is an important part of the training. Having everything in one place means that once the day’s sessions finish, there’s no commute or rush back into everyday life — there is time to eat together, rest, spend time outside and let what we’ve explored during the day settle.
